After graduating from the UFCVM, Dr. McNicholas returned to St. Augustine and practiced with his father for 3 years. After a year in Colorado, he pursued becoming a veterinary surgeon by moving to Dallas for a 1 year internship. He was chosen to do a 3-year residency in Indiana at Purdue University. Following completion of the residency program, Dr. McNicholas practiced for 2 years in South Florida at Palm Beach Veterinary Referral where he passed his Surgical Boards. An opportunity to move back to North Florida brought him to Jacksonville in 2004.
Dr. McNicholas lives at the beach and is married to Allison, a teacher. Together they have 2 daughters, Madison and Evelyn. His furry family includes a dog, Kodi, and 3 cats; Pip, Harley and Lily.

Dr. Erne is originally from Indianapolis, IN. After graduating from veterinary school, he completed a rotating internship in small animal medicine and surgery at the University of Missouri College of Veterinary Medicine. Dr. Erne was a general practitioner in South Florida for 3 years before taking a position as a surgical intern at Affiliated Veterinary Specialists in Jacksonville, FL in 2005. Dr. Erne completed his residency in small animal surgery and is a full-time surgeon at AVS-Jax. Dr. Erne lives in Jacksonville with his wife, Nicole, their two daughters, Megan and Kathleen, and 2 Springer Spaniels, Howie and Oliver.
